INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS FOR PHYTOSANITARY MEASURES

Requirements

  • Steel products that use wood in the packaging and are shipping overseas or to Mexico shall meet published Phytosanitary rules.
  • The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures document ISPM-PUBLICATION No.15. is available at :

    (Note the exceptions for shipments to the U.S.A.)
  • Wood packaging material shall display the approved mark as outlined in ISPM No. 15.
  • The “Marking For Approved Measures” as outlined in ISPM No. 15 shall appear in a minimum of 2 visible locations, preferably on 2 opposite sides of the packaged product.

 Applicability

There are 2 ways to determine if Phytosanitary Measures apply to the product being packaged.  They are as follows: 

  1. Typically, the packaging manual indicates that where ‘P’ followed by:
    1. Numeric 2, 3, 4, or 6 inch, for sheeted product, -or-
    2. Numeric 4 or 6 inch for coils indicates  that a Pallet or Runner is required and minimum height of runners.

A second “P” (shown as “PP”) followed by the numeric indicates that Phytosanitary Measures shall be followed for the specific order. (For example 3 below, if Phytosanitary Rules apply the code will be displayed as S65BCCPP4*C.)

  1. The Packaging Code may also specify directly that Pyhtosanitary measures apply.
