At Dofasco, we appreciate the differences in peoples' individual lifestyles, and the need for healthy personal, familial and social activities. As a result, Dofasco provides employees with a number of flexible work options.
Depending on where you are in the Company and what projects you're working on, you may also decide to take part in Job Sharing. You and another person could share the responsibility of one job in a variety of ways – you could work one week on, one week off, or trade days, or alternate afternoons and mornings. This lifestyle will allow you the time you need to get all those other important things done – whether it's raising a family, or simply having an afternoon to yourself to hike the Bruce Trail.
Reduced Work Hours
After you've been here a few years, you may decide it's time for a change of lifestyle. Whether it's starting a new family, or possibly pursuing further education, Dofasco's Reduced Work Hours program may come in handy. With supervisory approval, you can reduce your work hours by as little as 5%, or as much as 50%. You could have a four day work week, or leave at 2 p.m. every afternoon to meet your children at home. You will get pro-rated Profit Sharing, health care benefits, paid holiday allowance and vacation time. It's an option to consider, if you decide you need more time to yourself.
Leaves of Absence
Leaves of absence (a specified amount of time off without pay) take many forms. We have policies that cover leaves for adoption, maternity, education, governmental, and family care. We'll also give you time to go back to school and pursue a degree that could help you bring new skills to your position with the Company. You can work out a flexible option with your supervisor that meets both your personal and professional needs.
Dofasco is a 24-hour per day operation. Different areas in the plant have different schedules – some run on 10- and 12-hour shifts. Most office locations run 8-hour shifts. If you do work shifts, like many of our shiftworkers, you may find you enjoy the flexibility of having three days off in a row to enjoy your family or your favourite pastimes. It could be a chance for you to enjoy a sunny afternoon off with your spouse or your children, instead of being indoors. We've got a fully equipped Medical staff on hand to offer support in adapting to shiftwork, if necessary.
