ArcelorMittal Dofasco and ArcelorMittal Dofasco employees donate $35,000 to Haiti relief efforts
Company also donates two satellite phones to relief efforts in Port-au-Prince
Hamilton, Jan. 26, 2010: ArcelorMittal Dofasco today announced a $35,000 donation to the ongoing relief efforts in earthquake ravaged Haiti.
The donation consists of a $10,000 contribution from the company’s Corporate Community Investment Fund to the St. Joseph’s Healthcare – Haiti Relief efforts, and an additional $5,000 from the company’s employees through the Employee Donations Fund. The company has also donated two satellite phones, valued at $2,500 each, through the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation to on-the-ground relief efforts in Port-au-Prince. Another $15,000 is being donated to the Canadian Red Cross, with an additional $5,000 from coming from employees.
Today’s announcement was made live on air during the Haiti Media Telethon. The telethon, which aired on local television and radio stations, is being held to raise funds for St. Joseph’s two partner hospitals in Port au Prince. One, the University Hospital was demolished in the quake, while the second partner hospital, Hôpital Universitaire de la Paix, is still standing but lacks supplies to treat the flood of patients. A team from St. Joseph’s has been sent to Haiti to provide medical care.

We are pleased to be able to support the people of Haiti as they rebuild from this catastrophe.”
Today’s announcement follows an announcement from ArcelorMittal that the global company will increase its support for the Haiti relief efforts to $1 million.
