3.9.2 ST - Transaction Set Header

Purpose: To indicate the start of a transaction set and to assign a control number. 

Example: ST*856*014230001

ST02 329 Transaction Set Control Number  M AN 4/9  The first 5 digits 
represent a
transmission batch

3.9.3 BSN - Beginning Segment for Ship Notice

Purpose: To transmit identifying numbers, dates and other basic data relating to the transaction set.
